I am buying a 3 ton unit and a 2 ton unit for a house at just under 3000sq ft (2 stories). For both units, 15 SEER would cost $2500 more than 14, and 17/16 is $1500 over the 15. $4000 is a lot of money, but I would prefer the lower summer electricity bills (I live in the southern USA). I have heard that you will get your money back within a few years with a higher SEER. I can afford to spend the money now for the higher SEER unit (but will have less money for other projects around the house) I plan to live in the house for 5-10 more years. Should I go ahead with the the higher SEER units? What is the cost to benefit ratio?

Hi James,

Excuse my voyeurism - I googled and found a mention of my garden on your blog! Thanks for your kind words - any chance I can email you a photo of the coffee garden and use a link from my blog to yours?

Very true about the conservatism of MIFGS - great to see the pundits out in full force, but it does attract a small demographic. I come from an architectural background outside of horticulture, so I was quite surprised to be featured. Never know where this may go!

Thanks again
Esther

Sounds like a great project! Do you have some sort of worklog? I'd love to see some pictures.

What kind of grass are you laying? Also, have you limited to green? Like, it'd be lovely to see a design similar to this http://www.johnfrenchlandscapes.com.au/landscape-designers-melbourne.html with decking and natives etc. (perhaps I'm dreaming lol)

Hi James, I'd love to hear about your latest design (rather than your latest tech issue), I love the pics on your website too, put some here too I love images to draw me in. Keep me updated about your latest exploits out there - give me the rant you promise in your headline and most of all give me your opinion, I'm really interested. we just had our property landscaped and it has changed the look so much I love it everyday I drive in.. cheers erin
